Princess Street
Over a century ago, the first Chinese arrived in Kingston — laundrymen
on Princess Street, restaurateurs working dawn to closing. Their
stories have never been told whole.
This is a series of stories told in their own voices — on film, in recordings,
in writing — tracing generations of Chinese life in our small city.
“I took the SS Cleveland from Hong Kong to San Francisco — twenty-some days. Then two days by train to Vancouver, and another train all the way to Kingston.”

Our elders did not keep diaries. Their stories disappear if no one asks. This project asks — before it is too late.
Do you, or someone in your family, have a story to tell?
